Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Ozzi Kleen?
Ozzi Kleen is a 10 person Domestic Sewage Treatment Plant, utilising the Fully Aerobic
Activated Sludge technology used by the most modern day town and city council treatment plants.
What does it do?
It captures and treats all household wastewater, from the kitchen, bathrooms, toilets,
laundry etc.
How does it work?
As soon as you press the button or pull the plug this waste enters the Ozzi Kleen, to begin
the Aerobic process. This is where a complete digestion of organic waste takes place in
the oxygen rich environment, using naturally occurring bacteria and the organic waste
contributed to the system to produce treated high quality water. This water is decanted and
disinfected, then goes into an effluent holding compartment. When a sufficient amount of
water enter this compartment, a float switch turns the effluent pump on and pumps the treated
water out through the irrigation line onto gardens and lawns.
What is the Aerobic process?
Aerobic means in the presence of oxygen. Therefore, the treating of waste occurs in an oxygen
enriched environment. This treatment process is very effective and efficient, with break-down
occurring in a matter of hours. This process is used by modern day council plants world-wide.
What is Effluent?
Effluent is treated water at the end of the treatment process.
Who does the installation?
Your Ozzi Kleen Distributor can co-ordinate the installation for you or you can simply have
your own plumber carry out the installation.
Does the Ozzi Kleen smell?
No. Due to the aerobic process the waste does not decompose and therefore no smell.
Is the Ozzi Kleen noisy?
No. Due to the selection of equipment involved, there is only a low humming sound.
What can or cannot be put into the system?
Just as if you were connected to town sewerage, Ozzi Kleen allows you to use your favourite
cleaning products, disinfectants and bleaches. Also, as town sewerage requires you should not
put any foreign matter into the system, such as sanitary napkins and condoms.
How does Ozzi Kleen cope with shock loads?
A shock load - like heavy wash days, extra visitors, emptying a spa bath etc. It is the Ozzi
Kleen aerobic process which places no restrictions on carrying out day-to-day chores.
How much does the Ozzi Kleen cost to run?
The Ozzi Kleen is extremely cost efficient. Due to the unique Ozzi Kleen process the system
is not running continuously. Power costs are approximately 25 cents per day.
What area is needed for irrigation?
The extent of irrigation differs from site to site, as it is determined by the household size,
slope, location and soil types. Your Geo Tech will advise you on the irrigation area required.
How much water is irrigated onto the gardens/lawn?
The total amount of water you use in the household is the amount of water that automatically
irrigates your garden.
Does the irrigation water smell?
No. The Ozzi Kleen oxygenated treatment process does not allow for any septic process to take
place which can produce dissolved sulphides and other odours.
Can you get infections from the irrigated water?
The treated water quality from an Ozzi Kleen conforms with the Australian Standards AS1547.
Chlorine is used for disinfection which is an accepted practice in both small and city/town
teatment plants.
What type of chlorine is used?
Calcium hypo chlorine in tablet form. The concentration of chlorine used is less than that
of town drinking water.
How far away from the house can the Ozzi Kleen be?
There is no minimum or maximum distance required as long as it has the right fall, i.e. 1 in 60.
How often is the Ozzi Kleen serviced?
A service is carried out every 3 months. Results from the tests for water purity and system
efficiency are provided to you and your local government. Ther service will be carried out by
an Ozzi Kleen authorised agent.
What if something goes wrong?
We offer a full manufacturer's warranty. If something goes wrong, check the troubleshooting
guide in the Owner's Manual. If the problem can not be rectified please phone your local agent.
Does a manual come with the Ozzi Kleen?
Yes. The Owner's Manual can be found in the motor box, it is very informative telling you all
you need to know about how your Ozzi Kleen works.
Does the Ozzi Kleen need pumping out?
Under normal circumstances the Ozzi Kleen should never require pumping out.
What is grey water?
Grey water is all your household waste water not containing the toilet connection. Grey water
when stored for 12 hours is equal in bacterial content to normal raw sewage.
